Fresh Air Farms Weddings

Kenny & Matthew

When two designers from KC decide to get married, you know it’s going to be A) beautiful and B) a solid party. Kenny and Matthew gathered with their family and friends at Fresh Air Farm to celebrate their wedding with their closest people. It was a beautiful spring day, the red buds were blooming on the farm and the sun decided to peek out from behind the clouds just in time for their ceremony. I loved getting to work with these two.

Kansas City Farm Venue

KC has a lot to offer when it comes to farm wedding venues, but Fresh Air Farm is something special. I love the Airstream bridal suite, and the indoor / outdoor versatility that the venue has to offer in case of inclement weather. They also offer catering, tent rentals, valet parking and firework displays, among many other special additions to their wedding packages. The landscape surrounding the farm is breathtaking, and the barn itself is stunning. I love that the property is versatile enough to cater to many styles of wedding. The venue is modern enough to feel chic and polished but can also serve as a rustic getaway from the city for a countryside backdrop for your wedding. Kenny and Matthew both got ready together in the barn, which was very spacious and offered tons of natural light. The top floor of the bar held their pre-ceremony cocktail hour. Their wedding ceremony was held in front of the lake under this beautiful, massive tree. After the ceremony we did portraits out in the fields surrounding the property and then went back to the tent to celebrate with toasts and dinner.

The Perks of a Pre-Ceremony Cocktail Hour

Kenny and Matthew decided to have a pre-ceremony cocktail hour, which I love for a bunch of reasons. Nothing says “welcome to our wedding” like a drink in hand upon arrival. Winter wedding? Offer your arriving guests a warm drink, like a hot toddy or hot cocoa. Is it hot as hell outside? A cold drink in hand will be much appreciated if your ceremony is outdoors. In addition, a pre-ceremony cocktail hour encourages guests to arrive well before the ceremony, which ensures an on-time start and gives them lots of opportunities to mingle and talk before your wedding begins. While Kenny and Matthew opted to stay hidden before their wedding ceremony, some couples use this time to mingle with their guests and greet them as they arrive, taking the pressure off of the infamous receiving line following the wedding and putting nerves at ease if anyone has the jitters about being the center of attention during their ceremony. Overall, I think pre-ceremony cocktail hours are a win.

The Russell Restaurant

The number one thing that Kenny and Matthew could not stop raving about when they were telling me about their wedding day was their caterer, The Russell. In retrospect, I fully understand this, because The Russel served as so much more than just a caterer. Their food, service, presentation and design was ART. It was a huge centerpiece to the vibe of the wedding and probably the most hyped up aspect of the reception, overall. Once you see the spreads that they arranged for these two, there’s no denying that it was totally worth the hype. It was delicious, but I couldn't help but be in absolute aw at how a two-man-crew put together the design of their dinner, cocktail hour and dessert tables. It completely fit the vibe for a farm wedding, but it was also incredibly representative of what Kenny and Matthew wanted the focus of their wedding to be, loved ones gathering over a beautiful meal.
