The Harlow Weddings in Kansas City

Kansas City Wedding Photographer

“Choosing Hallie as our photographer was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. Before the wedding day, she was a breeze to work with, offering ideas and expertise for how to navigate our day best to capture what mattered to us. On the actual wedding day, she was a stable, calm, joyful presence who let us be who we are. Nothing felt forced, unnatural, or stressful. She expertly navigates the role of quiet observer to let moments happen and kind leader when it’s time to wrangle family and friends for group portraits. After the wedding, she delivered a gallery to us that transported us back to every moment of the day in the most artistic way possible. Every photo tells a story, with light that feels magical, and compositions that prove her mastery of her craft. Most importantly, Hallie captures the feelings of the day, so as time passes and memories fade, you can relive those moments over and over again. She has given us a true gift with her work. I cannot recommend Hallie enough!” - Lauren & Seth.

Lauren & Seth

I remember once reading a statistic in Aziz Ansari’s novel, Modern Love, that in the 1950’s, a majority of urban couples met within a one mile radius of their homes. Often, in their own apartment buildings. A modern day love story usually begins with a dating app, a coffee shop, or your aunt setting you up with a cute guy she met at her church. Perhaps Lauren and Seth’s modern love story is a nod to simpler times - these two met when Lauren moved into the apartment directly across from Seth’s, their doors literally facing one another. Having taken note of the mutual attraction and (I assume) finding reasons to leave the apartment as often as possible to catch a glimpse of one another, eventually, they fell in love. During our first meeting, Lauren told me that she and Seth wanted to sneak back into their old building on their wedding day to commemorate where it all begin. I, not being one to shy away from a mid-wedding day adventure, was all about it. We loitered, begged, and eventually a kind lady who was just trying to check her mail enthusiastically ushered us in from the rain. While I do not condone letting strangers into your apartment building, this, once again, serves as proof that when you are with someone wearing a wedding dress, people are generally willing to let you do whatever you want. I have found such friendship in these two, and being there on their wedding day was a favorite career memory of mine, undoubtedly.

The Harlow Kansas City Wedding Venue

I have a thing for skylights. Couldn’t tell you why, but something about a window to the sky in the middle of a wedding reception lights me up (no pun intended) in such a good way. The Harlow is located on Grand in Downtown Kansas City. This historic building was originally constructed to become an auto dealership. The original hardwood flooring, exposed brick, and gigantic windows looking over downtown Kansas City make it one of the prettiest little loft venues in town. I love the simplicity of the space and the open-air layout that makes any size of wedding feel breezy and cozy at the same time.

The Diamond Empire Wedding Band

Having a live band at your wedding adds a little somethin’ that can’t be compared to any other reception entertainment. Maybe it’s the magnetism of a group of live performers that makes everyone want to get up and dance, but it’s undeniable that even the most stubborn midwestern uncle who “doesn’t know how” will find a way to make it onto the dance floor when the band is hot. The Diamond Empire Band crushed it at Lauren and Seth’s reception, keeping everyone bopping along until the late hours of the night when they closed out the party with one final slow song for the couple.
