Kansas City Engagement Photos

Kansas City Engagement Photographer

It’s that time of year! Engagement season. I love the spring, when portrait sessions start happening left and right as the weather warms up. Winter engagements bring spring engagement sessions, and I am here for it. Jerica and Chase decided to do their engagement session at Chase’s childhood home in Overbrook, Kansas. It was a perfect spot with rolling hills and a little pond with a dock to sit by at sunset. I loved that they brought their dog Nala with them to the session and she was free to roam wherever she wanted while we were shooting. They’re getting married this winter in Mexico! I’m so excited for them. We spent this warm evening wandering around the property and sharing stories from KU, where we all went, and about their love story with Lawrence as the backdrop.

What to Wear to Your Engagement Session

I’ll put this very plainly: whatever the hell you want. I know it can feel overwhelming when you’re deciding what colors or outfit decisions to make for your engagement photos, but the best decision is to wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable in. Wearing something that feels super over the top or something that you’ve never worn before can be special - and if that’s your vibe, go for it! But wearing something that you already have, that you know you feel good in, and that shows off your personal style is your best bet. Don’t stress too much about matching / clashing - if you wouldn’t overthink it when you’re going on a date or out to dinner, there’s no need to overthink it for photos.

Where to Do Your Engagement Photos

I love this question! Mostly because I love the brainstorming that comes along with it. I think the best engagement sessions happen when we come up with a location that means something to you and your partner. That could be the neighborhood where you live, the spot downtown where you went on your first date, or like Jerica and Chase, land that is important to your family. There are no limitations or rules to where we can go, and there’s definitely no rules when it comes to what you do during your engagement session. If you love bowling and want to do them at the local bowling alley - great! If you have a favorite bar where you’re a regular and want to start there so you can grab a drink, that’s awesome. I love being creative and I think being open minded with locations makes the photos feel even more special and unique to your relationship.
